Hello and welcome to the Spring Newsletter. As the weather improves thoughts turn to a summer of festivals, what treats are on offer at Cornucopia Festival this year?
The festival is becoming widely recognised as an Arts Based Experience in addition to a full programme of 50 music acts, which this year includes: Grainne Duffy, The Jar Family, Merry Hell, Ashton Lane, The Jaywalkers, Tantz and many more. The weekend also offers Theatre, Comedy, Spoken Word, Art, Wellbeing Area and a few surprises.
The festival is all about atmosphere and experience and this year we have decided to concentrate on 2 stages; the historic Barn and the Big Top within the festival village, which will host the Off the Road stage on Friday and Sunday and World Music Saturday - a great new addition for 2015.
Smaller venues like the popular Chill Tent with its programme of Spoken Word and Comedy, and also this year the Theatre Tent, will offer short 10 minute plays written especially for the festival, directed and performed by the Courtyard Theatre group.
The Stable Yards remain a big feature of the festival, with one housing art collections provided by the Pride of Place Gallery in Hull and the second providing a wonderful venue for the many buskers who perform during the weekend. In addition this year the Stable Yards will also feature a new lighting display devised by York St John. This is subject to Arts Council funding, but if successful will provide a cutting edge light display to celebrate 2015 International Year of Light and 100 years since Albert Einstein discovered the theory of relativity.
The festival continues to encourage creativity and quirkiness and new for this year we are excited to announce “The World’s Smallest Stage” in a cream phone box provided by Kingston Communication. “Decorate a Garden Shed” is another new feature with which, with sponsorship, we are hoping to provide a number of small garden sheds for groups or individuals to decorate inside and out, before and during the weekend.
The Green Fair is always very popular, with many activities for families and in addition this year we are developing a Wellness Area where you can treat yourself to a massage, facial and possibly even a sauna. Also new this year will be a Star Gazing Party, where you will be able to explore the wonders of the stars in the night sky!
Remember Cornucopia is nearly all under cover, so whatever the weather decides to do it will not spoil the weekend, but if the autumn sun shines then so much the better! We are well aware of the cost of weekend festivals and therefore to help we now have ‘Children Under 11 Go Free’. We also offer a Family Ticket and new for this year you can pay a deposit and then pay in instalments.
Cornucopia is an ‘Inspiring, Magical and Vibrant’ weekend, with lots to see and do, entertainment for children, craft and music workshops, beautiful camping areas and a chance to explore the grounds of the Elizabethan Hall.
Best wishes from
The Cornucopia Team
